In a fiercely competitive market, product quality is the lifeline of manufacturing companies. For gas springs, service life directly determines customer reputation and brand value. Without investing heavily in cutting-edge equipment, ordinary manufacturers can significantly improve the reliability and durability of gas springs by simply implementing refined and standardized management in key production processes. Here are five practical process optimization guidelines:

1. Material Selection and Incoming Inspection
Material Selection Principles:Avoid blindly pursuing low-cost steel. Piston rods should be made of at least 45# steel; cylinder body materials must ensure uniform wall thickness and be free of internal cracks. Seals must be purchased from reputable suppliers, and they must provide material certification (e.g., temperature resistance, media resistance, hardness, etc.).
Notes on Warehousing:Establish a strict incoming material quality control (IQC) system. Conduct hardness spot checks on steel, and measure the dimensions and Shore hardness of seals. Preventing unqualified materials from entering the production line is the first and most important line of defense for extending service life.

2. Machining and Surface Treatment
Machining Accuracy:Ensuring the piston rod's straightness and surface roughness (Ra ≤ 0.4μm recommended) is critical. Regularly inspect grinders and lathes to ensure machining accuracy.
Surface Treatment:Electroplating is the core of corrosion and wear resistance. Ensure thorough cleaning before plating, and that the electroplated layer (such as the chromium layer) is uniform in thickness, well-adhered, and free of pinholes and flaking. The simplest verification method is a 24-hour neutral salt spray test to ensure the absence of rust.

3. Assembly and Lubrication
Cleanliness:This is the most easily overlooked and easily improved aspect of ordinary factories. Assembly must be performed in a dust-free, clean area. Ensure that the cylinder barrel and piston rod are free of any metal debris or dust particles.
Lubrication Standardization: Use high-performance, wide-temperature-range, specialized grease.The dosage must be standardized; too much or too little will affect performance. It is recommended to use a metered lubricator to ensure a consistent lubricant dosage for each product.

4. Inflation and Sealing:
Inflation Process:Use high-purity nitrogen (N₂) (99.8% purity or above). Avoid using air, as oxygen and moisture can cause internal oxidation and affect pressure stability with temperature fluctuations.
Sealing Technology:The sealing process is the final barrier to prevent gas leakage. Ensure a uniform, secure, and leak-free seal.Utilize 100% airtightness testing(such as underwater leak testing or differential pressure testing), and never allow a leaking product to enter the next process.

5.Aging Test and Packaging:
Required Aging Test:Even if all process steps pass, a dynamic stroke test, either spot-checking or full inspection, is still required. The gas spring is subjected to several reciprocating cycles under simulated operating conditions to detect any sticking, unusual noise, and initial force decay. This can help identify products with hidden defects during assembly.

Protective Packaging:Packaging and shipping aren't the end. The piston rod surface must be coated with anti-rust oil and wrapped with a protective sleeve to prevent scratches and rust during transportation and storage.
