Lockable gas springs are equipped with a mechanism that allows the piston rod to be locked at any point along its stroke. This mechanism is actuated by a plunger connected to the rod. When the plunger is pressed, the rod can move freely, functioning like a standard compression gas spring. Releasing the plunger at any position during the stroke immediately locks the rod in place.
Lockable gas springs feature an internal assembly that includes a piston rod, a piston valve, cylinders, guide components, and sealing elements. Pressure within the cylinder is created by a combination of nitrogen gas and hydraulic oil. These types of gas springs are commonly used in applications such as adjustable hospital beds and furniture, dental and surgical chairs, labor and operation tables, emergency trolleys, as well as in passenger seating and wheelchairs.
