What’s the point on installing lockable gas spring?

Controllable Gas Spring is an industrial accessory with functions of support, buffering, braking, height and angle adjustment. Mainly used for cover plates, doors and other parts of construction machinery.

It consists of the following parts: pressure cylinder, piston rod, piston, seal guide sleeve, filler (inert gas or oil gas mixture), control elements inside the cylinder and outside the cylinder (refers to controllable Gas Spring) and connectors.

The working principle of the controllable Gas Spring is to fill the closed pressure cylinder with inert gas or oil gas mixture to make the pressure in the chamber several times or dozens of times higher than the atmospheric pressure, and realize the movement of the piston rod by using the pressure difference generated by the piston rod's cross-sectional area less than the piston's cross-sectional area.

What should be paid attention to when using controllable Gas Spring?

1. Due to the harsh working environment of construction machinery, the sealing performance of Gas Spring is required to be high, and dust and other sundries should be avoided from entering the Gas Spring during use. In addition, sharp tools shall be prevented from scratching or damaging the surface of the Gas Spring piston rod, and the piston rod shall not be coated with paint and corrosive chemicals.

2. A certain margin (about 10mm) shall be added to the working stroke of the controllable Gas Spring to avoid the impact of errors during installation on the service life and performance of the Gas Spring.

3. The Gas Spring configured on the construction machinery has a short service life in the outdoor environment, which should be considered in the design.

4. The ambient temperature range of controllable Gas Spring is generally - 35~60

5. The Gas Spring cannot bear the lateral force or oblique force in the working process, otherwise the phenomenon of eccentric wear will occur, leading to the early failure of the Gas Spring, which is also to be considered in the design.

6. For the light door structure without locking device, the design shall ensure that the connection between the fixed fulcrum and the movable fulcrum of the controllable Gas Spring passes through the rotation center after the door is closed, so as to ensure that the elastic force of the Gas Spring can close the door, otherwise the Gas Spring will often push the door open; For heavier door structures (machine covers), provide locking devices.

7. When the controllable Gas Spring is closed and working, there shall be no relative movement, and its continuous expansion and contraction shall be controlled within the required range.

The door structure of construction machinery (such as the lid of a machine) is generally relatively heavy. When selecting Gas Spring, Gas Spring with safety device shall be considered to avoid potential safety hazards caused by Gas Spring failure.

9. Controllable Gas Spring shall not be used as limiting device, but additional limiting device shall be added. Generally, rubber heads are used to limit the position.
